Line cooks

  • Have a comprehensive knowledge of all Southside menu items and variations in order to consistently prepare and assemble dishes according to standards

  • Accurately set up and stock the line with prepared ingredients and supplies in order to complete daily service quickly and efficiently.

  • At the end of service, break down, reset and clean station to close kitchen.

Prep Cook

  • With direction from the commissary chef, prep items for the Southside food and beverage menus

  • Label, stock and organize all items so that they are easily accessible

  • Assist with SMOKE Open Fire Cooking catering prep as needed

Commissary Sous Chef

  • As directed by commissary chef, supports culinary and baking/pastry production for all Southside cafes, consistently executing all items according to demonstrated standards.  

  • Contributes to large-scale prep for SMOKE, in collaboration with head event chef

  • Provides culinary assistance at SMOKE catering events as scheduled

  • Works with commissary prep team to track prep inventory and maintain prep pars.

Shift lead

  • Deliver superior customer service and maintain customer service standards throughout the Southside team

  • Foster a sense of urgency with the team to deliver contagious enthusiasm and professionalism at each step of the customer’s experience.

  • Provide guidance and actively set an example for team members, ensuring that all standard operating procedures and cleanliness standards are maintained and followed

  • Support the store manager by coordinating employee breaks, assigning tasks and managing inventory

Store manager

  • Coordinate and oversee all functions of Southside operations as appropriate for store sales at varied volume levels

  • Deliver superior service, maximize customer satisfaction and maintain standards throughout the Southside team

  • Work with director of operations and ownership to monitor store financial performance and to control budgeted expenses

  • Effectively train, mentor and manage new and current employees on Southside service standards and accountabilities


  • Engage with all guests in a friendly, welcoming manner

  • Prepare and serve hot and cold beverages, with a focus on crafting coffee and espresso drinks.

  • Provide customers with food and beverage details with preparation descriptions to help their decision making process.

  • Be a valued member of the team with enthusiasm, professionalism and a can-do attitude.


  • Warmly greet guests and accurately record their orders through the point of sale system

  • Know the menu inside and out for information and salesmanship through upselling and add ons

  • Provide individualized, memorable, exceptional customer service at every step of the guest’s experience

  • Assist with food running, bussing, cleaning and maintaining Southside standards of service

Food Runner and Busser

  • Deliver food and beverages to guests accurately, quickly and efficiently

  • Provide professional and friendly follow-up service to enhance the guest’s experience

  • Promptly remove customer’s dirty dishes to the bussing area

  • Keep the cafe clean and organized throughout shift, including wiping down tables, sweeping floors and other side work duties
